If you are a serious athlete and need special programming we are prepared to train you for whatever your performance goals may be, let us program out your annual training program. Training for performance is a very complicated task and should not be taken lightly. We want to train optimally. This means avoiding over-training, modalities and rep schemes that will negatively impact your sport specific performance. There are different types of strengths and many different sports. It is important to recognize what types of strength dominate performance in each sport. Speed-Strength, Strength-Speed, cyclic and acyclic strength, strength endurance, strength-speed endurance, absolute strength, ballistic strength, loaded ballistic strength are all types of strength that are unique. We want to identify what strengths are used in the sport, what the athletes weaknesses are and build them up.
Should younger athletes be doing strength training? YES!!!! Only when muscles are used in isolation or bad form is practiced do we see harmful results. Physical activity and strength training is very important for things like bone density, muscle and brain development and the establishment of healthy exercise habits. The concept that young people should not do hard physical labor is completely erroneous.
If you are finishing your sport and are not participating in another in the season immediately following then coming here will be in your best interests. The gym will be open for athletes between 3 and 430pm daily to come in and complete the individually programmed workouts. There will be a testing day consisting of things most applicable to the athlete's sporting demands. Athletes will participate in a Saturday Seminar where they will be taught the basics of weight training and what our goals as athletes are. At which point the athletes, based on their testing performance and sporting demands, will be given weekly workouts to do here at the gym under supervision. Athletes can choose to do a 2,3 or 4x/week program.
